First 3 Questions

  • What yoga mat do you recommend for beginners?

For the last 13 years I have used a Manduka mat. I love it! I love the Manduka PRO Mat but I also have a PRO LITE. The Pro Lite is great for travel or a beginners mat. The Manduka Pro is an investment.

However, new on the scene to me is LIFORME. I started participating at Real Hot Yoga Myrtle Beach and I noticed that a few people had a LIFORME mat so I had to get one. It's nothing like the Manduka and has been a little learning curve, however I like it better for hot sweaty yoga classes. • Do you have any favorite music or playlists for yoga practice?

I am a complete music junkie and I think I might be the only one who doesn't have a Spotify account. I promised myself I would change that - I really love music and how it changes the mood so often.

In my classes for the past few years I have been playing music from Amazon Music's Unlimited subscription called "INSTRUMENTAL CHILL". It's non lyrical and moody, perfect for any kind of yoga class. People aren't hung up on words. They don't rush down memory lane when hearing a song because most of the songs are new indie style.

I don't want music to interrupt class or practice, I want it to compliment it. However, I also don't mind if people get "lost" in the rhythm or melody so in a way - I do want people to "vibe".

  • What role does mindfulness play in your approach to eating and exercise?

Well that's easy! Eat when you are hungry. Stop when you are full. Move when you are antsy, tired, agitated, nervous, irritated and bored!

That's clearly an oversimplification for sure but here's the thing - we need to listen to our bodies more which is mindfulness. Instead of ignoring the signals our bodies give us about how we feel we really need to tune out what the rest of the world is telling us to do, how to feel, etc. Your body is the best investment and machine you will ever build!

If you are looking for a way to learn how to set boundaries with your schedule, food choices or even more discipline with your workouts or time management, The Yoga Health Club might be for you. I don't know anything who wouldn't be a good candidate actually. In the Yoga Health Club we move from surviving and just barely getting by to thriving in our own bodies, our own environment and we take back and redefine what HEALTH is, together.
